Arthur Franklyn Musgrave 1878 - 1969

Arthur Franklyn Musgrave was born in 1878 in Brighton, East Sussex.The 1891 Census shows him as a pupil at Horton Hall Collegiate School, Northamptonshire.


Following his education he studied as an artist, moving to the Newlyn School of Art in Cornwall. During the Great War 1914-18 he served in the British army becoming second lieutenant 9th Battalion The Bedfordshire Regiment. He was discharged through illhealth in 1916 and emigrated to the USA.

The manifest below shows his departure from Liverpool for New York on the SS St Paul on 2nd December 1916. His nearest relation is shown as his brother George Christopher Brooke Musgrave who was a Major based in London.

1918 Marriage of Arthur Franklyn Musgrave

Arthur Franklyn Musgrave Married Helen Greene 2nd October 1918 in New York City. He became well known and respected artist and over the next 12 years raised a family of 12 children. The 1930 census shown below lists their three children, William aged 10, Barbara aged 9, and Nancy aged 5. Their last child Rosemary was born later in 1930.
